What is the best/cheapest rental car company?

I am driving from Denver to Fargo and am driving straight thru so I will only need the car for 24 hours. I am not very good at internet searching but the prices seem to vary a lot. Is there a place where I can get great deals or is one better/cheaper than the other? What is the best/cheapest rental car company?
In my experience, I've found that Budget is usually the cheapest, but it totally depends on the airport, the day, etc. That answers will help determine the cheapest rate. If you happen to be flying into Denver on a busy day, rates could be much more expensive than if you were flying in a few days later. There are tons of coupons, like David said, but there doesn't appear to be any current coupons valid for one-way rentals. So you're out of luck on that. It looks like the best you could hope for is to get airline miles/points with your rental.

Here's a quick search for a one-way rental from Denver to Fargo on July 25 (return on the 26th in Fargo):

Budget: $140 ($181 total)

Alamo: $210 ($268 total)

Dollar: not available

Avis: not available (sold out?)

Thrifty: not available

Enterprise: Need to call

Expedia: $140 ($181 total) - only returned Budget as an option

From this introductory search, it looks like Budget is the way to go.What is the best/cheapest rental car company?
The prices can vary a great deal.. it can be based on availability, the dates, the city, etc. There really is no ';best'; or ';cheapest'; car rental company overall. You can get a great rate with one company for a certain rental and find a cheaper rate with another company for a different rental.

You are right to do comparison shopping to get the best price available.

Your best bet is to go to a booking site, like Travelocity, for example, where you can compare multiple car rental company rates at once. Once you find the cheapest car rental company, I suggest going to their website directly to see if they have any deals or specials that will give you a lower rate.

you can also try to check car rental rates using a discount code. There are hundreds of membership programs and professional associations that offer car rental discount codes to their members. You can find a list of over 300 car rental discount codes for 8 major car rental companies, at http://www.best-car-rental-tips.com/disc鈥?/a>

Hope this helps!
